The Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 Solar Impulse Limited Edition Watch is not only an eye-catching timepiece in-and-of itself, but is also linked to a bold and historic project, which makes it even more intriguing.
Suggesting its symbolic connection with the Earth, the watch comes in a vibrant mix of colors: the 45 mm grade 2 titanium case features a blue ceramic bezel, with green and blue rings on the periphery of the dial, and a green seconds hand. The reason for this color scheme is the fact that Omega has partnered with the Solar Impulse project, which intends to send an airplane powered solely by the Sun on a flight around the planet – the first time such a feat has been achieved.
The Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 Solar Impulse Limited Edition features the Omega watch calibre 5619 multi-functional quartz chronograph movement, with a thermo-compensated integrated circuit, with analog hands and a grey-on-black liquid crystal display that can indicate the hour, minute and seconds of up to three different time zones. It also has a backlight, three alarms, chronograph and countdown functions, and a perpetual calendar with day, date, month, year and week number indications, as well as mission timers such as mission elapsed time (MET) and phase elapsed time (PET) – making it the perfect companion for the Solar Impulse mission.
The Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 Solar Impulse Limited Edition comprises just 1,924 pieces (a figure selected to commemorate the year the first ever round-the-world flight took place), each priced at CHF 4,900, or about $5,300.
