The Nemo Room is a collaboration between yacht Intelligence, Ken Freivokh Design, Genesis Technologies, and IMAX which aimed to create the first on-board superyacht cinema experience.

This stunning setup will be used to not only watch the latest flicks but will also project a live underwater CCTV feed from outside the vessel onto the walls inside. Designed purely for entertainment, it will be utilized used for blu-ray, streaming live content, gaming, and video conferencing.

The Nemo Room is designed to be part of Ken Freivokh Design’s latest project – a new 150-meter superyacht – whose future wanted to be truly special and spectacular (as if a 150-meter yacht wasn’t spectacular enough!). The first IMAX cinema on a ship certainly qualifies as such.

As you’d expect, a project like this is really challenging from a technical standpoint, as the area on board a yacht (even one on this scale) is limited. Thus the owners and their guests will enter the room via sliding walls instead of doors, which creates a seamless surround screen and creates that great IMAX immersive effect. Certain technical challenges had to be overcome in the hardware and software departments as well: the system needs a unique image enhancer which uses a camera to read the picture on the screen and feeds this back to the projector and the huge file size of IMAX movies really puts even the best internet connection to the test.

When the Nemo Room will eventually be completed, it will certainly be one of the most impressive spaces ever to grace a ship of any kind. Expect more superyachts to ask for this feature in the future.
