La Cité du Vin

A true architectural wonder, La Cité du Vin is a new breathtaking attraction from Bordeaux, an incredible wine museum/theme park, which just opened its doors on June 1st, 2016. This unique addition to the city’s landscape is the perfect place to savor a delicious meal, taste a great wine and enjoy life in general.

After an extraordinary project which took over 10 years to make and exactly $103 million spent, La Cité du Vin has become one of the wine world’s most ambitious projects, meant to pay a fine tribute to the history and magic of this delicious and healthy drink.

Designed by the renowned Parisian architects Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazières, the overall shape of the building mirrors exactly the wine when it’s poured into a glass. Showing off gold and silver metal plates, this building stands eight stories high and it’s actually the tallest building in the center of Bordeaux.

At the heart of La Cité du Vin you may notice a permanent 32,000-square-feet high-tech installation, courtesy of Dinah Casson and Roger Mann. Its interiors are boasting with various subtle hints and touches inspired by the wine culture, including interactive portions for children – I’m not quite sure what that means.

The Jefferson Auditorium will house screenings, presentations and music concerts and when that’s all over, the delicious menu at Le 7 restaurant, designed by chef Nicolas Lascombes, of La Terrasse Rouge in Saint-Émilion, will make your evening even more enjoyable, as impossible as that may sound.

Enjoying a 360-degree view of the river and the city’s waterfront, while savoring a marvelous dish paired by an exquisite wine, is definitely a great experience here. The bistro and wine shop are also worth a visit, where 800 wines from 70 countries await to tease your pallets. For just €20, it would be a shame not to try it out.
