It’s Official: Audi Buys Ducati For $1.1 Billion

It’s been a while since we’ve first heard of the acquisition of Ducati by Audi – two of the most renowned vehicle manufacturers in the world, but now it’s finally officially. The German automaker, part of the Volkswagen group, Audi, has acquired Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. for around a staggering $1.1 billion.

Ducati was founded in 1926 by Adriano and Marcello Ducati. They’ve always been crafting state of the art motorcycles, fitted with speed and incredible control. Audi are already presiding two fabled Italian brands, one of them a supercar manufacturer, Lamborghini, acquired back in 1998, and the other, the automotive firm Italdesign, purchased in 2010.

Ducati have long been renowned for their incursion in motorcycle racing, proof of their skills, knowledge and experience. Present in the MotoGP class of the Motorcycle World Championship and in the Superbike World Championship, they’ve won the last 17 times out from a total of 21 as manufacturers, and 14 times as pilots.

It is currently considered that Ducati’s acquisition by Audi is a welcomed situation, long awaited by the German luxury car maker, setting it back in the fight with the renowned BMW, the top luxury auto manufacturer in the world, as well as top notch motorcycle manufacturer with brands like BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna. Let’s hope the legend goes on.
