Steampunk is a quirky style with a lot of potential for creativity, even though it’s not usually associated with luxury. What you are about to see is the Swiss watchmaker Romain Jerome’s take on the theme.

As expected, the Romain Jerome Steampunk Auto Colors collection is a distinctive mix of vintage and futuristic. The watch comes with a black PVD-coated steel 50mm case, fitted with an open-worked movement that reveals the inner workings of the piece. Steampunk sci-fi usually showcases modern devices like robots powered by steam (hence the name) and other 19th century technologies, so showing the movement of a watch is somewhat consistent with the genre.

The timepiece features the automatic movement RJ001-AS, with enough power for 42 hours of usage. The hours and minute hands (which are shaped like anchors), as well as the movement wind the propeller-shaped second hand 9 o’clock, reminiscent of 20th century transatlantic ships. Finally, each timepiece is mounted on a black alligator leather strap with matching colored stitching.

The Romain Jerome Steampunk Auto Colors collection is limited to 99 pieces in each color. Every one of these intriguing watches is priced at about $16,950.
