Donald Trump Acquires the Turnberry Golf Resort

Donald Trump, who has a bit of a history with Scottish golf courses (not without ups and downs), has recently bought the Turnberry golf and hotel resort, located in south-western Scotland.

The previous owner was Dubai-based investment company Leisurecorp, who bought the property in 2008 for a reported £52million. The complex includes a five star hotel, luxury self-catering accommodation and a spa, in addition to the three golf courses, has hosted The Open golf championship four times (most recently in 2009) and is set to host it again sometime in the following years.

Turnberry is the only course in the Open circuit that is privately held and the new owner has pledged to not alter it in any way without the approval of the Royal and Ancient, which organizes the Open Championship. Knowing Trump however, it’s quite possible there’s going to be a name change in the future.
