In stereotypical terms and according to clichés, fashion is just a default style of today. We can but say this is absolutely, genuinely wrong – it’s a complicate term, associated to all styles and trends developed alongside the evolution of the human being, from leaf to diamond-encrusted bras. It looks like designer and fashion artist Charlotte Olympia has also taken this matter seriously, combining the principle of vogue with eclectics and, why not, weirdness.
In this particular case, the acclaimed fashion specialist has reportedly taken her Dolly platform pumps and dyed them in themes based on the styles of great artists from the 19th and 20th centuries, like Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Jackson Pollock, Piet Mondrian, Howard Hodgkin and Roy Lichtenstein.
The collection was specially created for the famous luxury department store Neiman Marcus and has debuted at Art Basel Miami. The painting process was realised by an artist carefully and personally picked by Olympia Charlotte, the photographer and body art painter Boyard Messenger. The artist has, in fact, repainted the full 100 pairs in a staggering theme filled with color and joy.
So, these art-inspired shoes are a perfect testimony of fashion being combined with art and particular works of famous artists. This comes to prove that there’s still a strong connection between the artistic achievements of a handful of people who lived decades ago and the stuff we’re wearing today. Superb!
